The Upper East Side apartment that once hosted the city’s best parties has found a buyer. President John F. Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, and the notorious Rat Pack are just some of the famous personalities whose presence graced this monumental co-op at 530 East 72nd Street. If the walls could talk, what a story they would tell!

Sinatra sold the apartment in 1972 to his doctor, Denton Cox. Due to its historical value, Dr. Cox kept most of the furniture and decor which Sinatra had designed for it. Stepping into the apartment back then was like stepping back in time to the 1960s. Since then, it has been sold twice, once in 2008 and again in 2010. The last owner was TSC Direct insurance company founder, Penny Hart, who bought the penthouse for roughly $2.5 million.

The listing shows that Hart did a complete overhaul and renovation, bringing the apartment back to the future. Now it has luxurious modern furniture, an elegant glass staircase, new floors, and new windows.

The 3,200 square-foot two-story penthouse has seven rooms, four bedrooms, and four-and-a-half bathrooms. Nearly as spacious as the interior, the exterior boasts two large terraces, one on each level, that offer amazing north, east, and south views of the city. Rumors have it that during Frank Sinatra’s parties it was not uncommon for champagne glasses to be thrown from the terraces down onto the highway 23 stories below.

The New York Post reports that, supposedly, the buyer is the daughter of a Chinese technology tycoon. She apparently got a good deal. The penthouse initially listed for $7.7 million, but later dropped in price three times down to $5.495 million.
