John Madden Sells Dakota Pad For $3.9M
Legendary former football coach and sports commentator John Madden has finally sold his Upper West Side apartment at the Dakota after having it on the market for two and a half years and dropping the price several times.
The two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom co-op, which boasts original antique details, sold for $3.9 million after initially being listed for $4.9 million and then nudged down to $4.4 million.
This, of course, is not the only home of the Super Bowl–winning Madden and his wife Virginia. Their primary residence is in California, but since Madden is absolutely terrified of flying, they rarely used their fabulous 1 West 72nd Street pad after he retired from broadcasting in 2009.
The sale was handled by Dolly Lenz, the Manhattan super broker who once was the vice chairman of Douglass Elliman—she broke off this year and created her own company. This comes just weeks after she listed Bernie Madoff’s old place for a whopping $17.25 million.
