56 Leonard Street is a new development in New York's Tribeca area. The sophisticated and modern building was developed by Alexico Group and designed by the famed Swiss firm of Herzog and de Meuron. This is no standard skyscraper. The design expertly melds the original Anish Kapoor sculpture into the base of the building. The characteristic that stands out the most is the staggered formation of the floor plates, which slightly turn off of the axis as the levels ascend, creating outdoor space for each one of the 145 unique residences.
Residences can be categorized into "townhouses," tower residences and penthouses and range from one to five bedrooms. The residences offered in this new development in New York feature immense glass doors, up to 12-feet high, that open onto the private outdoor spaces, which are outfitted with a frameless balustrade, travertine pavers and custom designed handrail. The terraces afford residents with stunning views of the city, its flanking rivers and bridges and New York Harbor while simultaneously flooding the living spaces in natural light. The interior of the units offers an elegant and subtle palette with unique textures and finishes. Natural pale wood flooring, champagne colored window mullions, satin etched glass, sleek Thassos marble, smooth black granite, polished metals and high-gloss black laquer accent the space.
The 1,600-square-foot lobby features 18-foot high black granite walls, a double-height ceiling and custom designed reception desks. There is space for the 24-hour doorman and concierge stations, a mail, package and refrigerated storage room, and two separate elevator landings with a total of seven elevators. There are two floors of amenity space which were custom designed by Herzog and de Meuron. This space includes an indoor/outdoor 75-foot infinity edge pool which is surrounded by a black terrazzo deck and an outdoor sundeck that cantilevers 20 feet over the block to provide extraordinary Tribeca views. There is also a fitness center with yoga studio, wet and dry spa, a library lounge, a screening room, a private dining/conference room and a Tribeca Tot Room.
56 Leonard Street enjoys a central Tribeca location. Tribeca is one of New York's most sought-after neighborhoods, and with good reason. There are many nearby options for dining, shopping, nightlife and entertainment. It is quickly becoming "the" place for trendy, young professionals. There is plenty of public transportation nearby as well.
