Six-time Grammy award–winning pianist Billy Joel has sold his penthouse at 128 Central Park South for $11.375 million. This massive apartment covers 10,000 square feet and has an astounding 3,000 square foot outdoor space. The view from the terraces is mind-blowing. Looking out over Central Park from this vantage point is what New Yorkers call a multimillion-dollar view. Billy Joel’s agent, Lisa O’Connor, says in awe: “Your jaw drops when the elevator opens.… It’s a real OMG moment. It’s like you’re floating on Central Park. And that’s before you see the terraces.” This may sound like an exaggeration but, believe me, it’s not.

The interior amenities this luxury penthouse has to offer include three beautiful fireplaces, a keyed private elevator, an enormous kitchen, a cozy media room, and oversized windows.

Actually, Billy Joel has settled down outside New York City in Port Jefferson, Long Island, and hasn’t lived in the apartment for quite some time. The building, which was built in 1924 and then converted into a co-operative in 1984, provides a few more amenities, such as a fitness center, white-glove 24/7 concierge, and housekeeping that includes personal laundry service.

The initial listing price was $12.5 million and the identity of the buyer, an unknown European investor, is still unknown. Billy Joel originally bought the place from Ted Turner in the late 90s for the bargain price of $1.675 million. It’s hard to imagine today that places like this were traded back then for such low prices.
