Axl Rose Apartment Hunting in New York

Wednesday, 01 May 2013 04:35 PM

Guns N’ Roses frontman, Axl Rose, is out and about hunting for an apartment in downtown New York. The “Knockin’ on Heaven’s” door singer had previously rented a place in Tribeca and, according to the New York Post, said that he “likes the people” in New York. So the logical consequence would be a permanent place, and a rep for Axl has confirmed that he is in fact looking for something more permanent.

We’ve decided to help him out a little with a look at five Tribeca homes, apartments which would undoubtedly suit a rock star’s needs. There’s no info about whether he’s looking for a rental again or a condo. Nor is there any info about size.

Tips 1. and 2. — 56 Leonard Street ($5,000,000–$28,500,000)

56 Leonard Street was considered dead after the financial crisis of 2008, but it’s come back and construction is running ahead full speed. Apartments just recently hit the market and, while the majority of the 145 units have already been sold, the new rising Tribeca star still has some really attractive units up for sale. One of them is Apt. 44B East, a two-bedroom apartment on the 44th floor with astonishing downtown views and a private outdoor space. The price is $5,000,000 and it’s currently the cheapest unit left in the building.

Not big enough? All right, there’s also Apt. 49 West. This $14.5 million apartment offers breathtaking views from its 49th-floor location and offers an oversized living room perfect for throwing large parties. Three private balconies, four bedrooms and a total of 3,576 square feet make it an apartment a rock star can hardly resist.

(Our No. 1 choice: 56 Leonard Street. The only downside: It won’t be completed until 2014.)

Tip 3. — 260 West Broadway

The American Thread building, a former warehouse and factory site, is one of the oldest luxury condo conversions in Tribeca. It’s a landmark building and listed as a “Historic Place” in the National Register. The unit we’re looking at is its domed penthouse with an asking price of $10.5 million. If Axl likes to throw private parties, this apartment should be on the very top of his list. Its rotunda has a 28-foot diameter, 25-foot ceilings, and a stained glass skylight.

The enormous living room has a wood-burning fireplace and great views to the south and east. And the 3,777-square-foot loft has two bedrooms and 2.5 baths.

Tip 4. — 62 Beach Street

Axl Rose has a 2.3-acre mansion in Malibu. Looking at its pictures, it’s obvious that he must love a large outdoor space. So our next tip is the penthouse at 62 Beach Street, which has an outstanding 3,037 square feet of outdoor space.

62 BEACH STREET, PHA

Its landscaped terrace is irrigated and has a BBQ, audio system, and charming views of Tribeca. The 4,316-square-foot loft has five bedrooms, 4,5 bathrooms, and ceilings as high as 20 feet, six inches—the price tag: $14 million.

Tip 5. — 288 West Street

Number five on our list is the combo unit 2E/2W at 288 West Street. If Axl loves rustic wood-beamed ceilings, heart pine columns, exposed brick walls, and wants to be creative, combining these two beautiful apartments into one might make the perfect apartment-combo.The two units total 4,000 square feet with four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms and are priced at $5.8 million.
