The triplex penthouse of the exclusive One Madison building at 23 East 22nd Street has indeed hit the market for a whopping $50 million. Yes, the building is in a central location with Gramercy, NoMad, and Chelsea all surrounding it, but it seems to be part of an ongoing trend of astronomically priced penthouses gracing New York City.

The One Madison listing comes on the heels of the Walker Tower’s largest penthouse going for $55 million, making it the most expensive downtown property to hit the market! And it doesn’t stop there! The battle is really heating up with the highly anticipated 432 Park already slapping a—wait for it—$85 million price tag on its penthouse, which is still under construction.

These are indeed luxury buildings with One Madison accentuating its sticker price with a 50-foot pool, spa, yoga room, and children’s playroom in the building. Its penthouse contains five bedrooms and five and a half baths and contains an oversized kitchen, dressing rooms, and a media room.

Similarly, the Walker Tower, located at 212 West 18th Street, features many of the same luxury building amenities along with 13-foot coffered ceilings in the penthouse and heated flooring. Of course, 432 Park Ave, which is expected to be completed by 2015, plans to have many of the same offerings as a spa and luxury hotel right at your fingertips.

So do these penthouses warrant the hefty prices? Honestly, buyers will determine that. We’ll just have to see how long it takes for these skyscraper dwellings to actually sell. Keep in mind, 432 Park is already in contract for their $95 million penthouse—yes that’s 95!
