Manhattan is well prepared for what might be the most devastating storm to come since Hurricane Bob, which hit New York in 1991. The category 2 hurricane caused two deaths and $75 million in damage. Sandy is approaching New York with speeds of 91 mph and a pressure of 943, which is even lower than the pressure of Hurricane Bob. Sandy is expected to make landfall sometime between 10pm and 12pm somewhere between Atlantic City and Northern Ocean County in New Jersey.

State and city officials announced that the Holland and Brooklyn Battery Park tunnels will close at 2 p.m. today, while the MTA have already stopped bus and subway service closed at 7 p.m. last night. No announcement has been made regarding when things will be up and running again.

Current new condo developments in New York are in danger and work has been shut down for the time being while the storm passes.

Here are some pictures of New York City's preparation for the storm and of deserted public places like Grand Central.
