James Frey and his wife Maya have sold their Soho duplex at 505 Greenwich Street for $3.9 million. It would appear that James needs a change of scenery after all the “Million Little Pieces” scandal. Let’s backtrack a bit. James published his memoirs, A Million Little Pieces back in 2003. In them he wrote about his addiction, his troubled life, and his time in prison. The Smoking Gun website published an article called “A Million Little Lies” claiming that many of the “facts” in the book—like his drug abuse experiences, and details of his life and incarceration—were fabrications. After a huge media battle, James eventually admitted on Oprah that parts of the books were made up.

Frey bought the first part of the duplex in 2005, just before the controversy about his book surfaced. Is James now looking for a fresh start by selling the duplex and letting go of everything that ties him to that time? We don’t know. But we do know that James made a bundle on the sale. He picked up the apartments in 2005 and 2008 for a combined sum of $3.5 million and sold the duplex unit for $3.9 million, netting a $400.000 surplus.

This third-floor condo has an expansive 2,801 square feet, with four bedrooms and four bathrooms, which makes it really quite alluring for guests. It has a gigantic living room that opens onto an open kitchen, a dining area, and a gallery. The ten-feet-high floor-to-ceiling windows scattered around the perimeter of the apartment nicely flood the rooms with daylight.

One look at the apartment makes it hard to believe that anyone would want to give it away just to get a fresh start after some rough times. Did we mention that the building offers some other great amenities: a fitness room, bike room, rooftop deck, and courtyard.

We don’t know where James is heading after selling his pad, but we assume it won’t be New York City since his latest projects are happening in California.
