Best-selling novelist Kathryn Stockett has purchased James Iha’s Greenwich Village apartment at 119 East 10th Street for $1.25 million. Initially it was only offered for rent. James Iha, guitarist of Smashing Pumpkins wanted $5,995-a-month for his stellar pad.

The Observer reported that it required some negotiations in order to persuade James to sell his apartment instead of renting it out. We all still remember that Kathryn submitted the bestseller “The Help” to 60 literary agents, who altogether rejected her. Seems like she learned how to persuade and negotiate since then.

The 1100-square-foot, 5-room, 1-bedroom and 1-bathroom can also be converted into a two-bedroom apartment. The building itself doesn’t have any noticeable amenities besides a private garden. The apartment has two wood-burning fireplaces, a Miele dishwasher and original wide plank floors.

The apartment was brokered exclusively by Sydney Blumstein of The Corcoran Group and had been on the market for 21 weeks in total, considering, that it was taken of the market for two months in March and re-listed with an increase of $250.

Kathryn Stockett most likely purchased the apartment as a pied-à-terre, as she resides with husband and daughter in Georgia.
