The Viceroy Hotel has had New Yorkers all abuzz for over a year eagerly awaiting its opening day. Now, starting October 9th, the hotel will be taking reservations for guests.

The once only-rumored 120 W 57th Street hotel (Yes, the project started off rather top secret!) will be the first official Viceroy to grace its presence in New York City—and expectations are quite high. Back in January, the uber-luxury hotel and resort group CEO, Bill Walshe, pretty much ensured us that the Viceroy would squash our pre-existing hotels in New York. And that’s confidence considering basic rooms start at a staggering $559 a night and this city isn’t short on hotels.

The film noir inspired 29-story black brick and steel tower, whose 240 guest rooms are more reminiscent of ship cabins than hotel rooms (And yes, this was purposely done) is the vision of Hollywood designing couple Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch.

The couple, who go by their firm name, Roman and Williams, had years of experience designing for films before they segued into their own business developing high-end commercial and residential properties. They have had such A-list clients as Ben Stiller and Gwyneth Paltrow and boast such highly celebrated projects as the snazzy Royalton and Ace hotels.
