Crane of One57 Collapsed Hurricane Sandy

The crane attached to the top of One57 has just collapsed due to increasing winds from hurricane Sandy. We reported an hour ago that construction sites might be in danger. Major winds from Sandy haven’t even hit NYC yet and more destruction can be expected. The broken crane is hanging down the side of building, while people watch the scenario in disbelief. We'll keep monitoring the area and report once updates come in.

Manhattan is well prepared for what might be the most devastating storm to come since Hurricane Bob, which hit New York in 1991. The category 2 hurricane caused two deaths and $75 million in damage. Sandy is approaching New York with speeds of 91 mph and a pressure of 943, which is even lower than the pressure of Hurricane Bob. Sandy is expected to make landfall sometime between 10pm and 12pm somewhere between Atlantic City and Northern Ocean County in New Jersey.

The management at 120 Riverside Boulevard has been quietly replaced with AKAM Living Service as Trump’s contract had expired. Trump has been ousted as manager and residents are quite unhappy about how the change of power took place.

According to residents of the building, no one residing there was consulted, and they were disappointed that a white glove building like the Trump Place didn’t show any transparency in the switch of management.

Despite Walmart’s efforts to break into the New York City market for more than 7 years, it has faced another big setback to its plan. A new mall being constructed in Brooklyn, known as the project Gateway 2, has a very large space available, which Walmart reportedly has been incredibly interested to lease. Walmart’s spokesman said “…we were unable to agree upon economic terms for a project in East New York”.

The national real estate listing website trulia.com aims to raise up to $100 million in an initial public offering. The San Francisco based company had planned to raise $75 million, but revised its plans in a regulatory filing on Friday. Trulia plans to release six million shares at $14 to $16 a share.

Sobering news from Manhattan, just outside of the Empire State Building (ESB) today, 10 people were shot, according to Reuters. Two, unfortunately were fatally wounded. The shooter, Jeffrey Johnson (53) shot indiscriminately into the crowd in front of the popular tourist spot, after killing a former co-worker (41). Some construction workers around the ESB tried to catch and stop the shooter. Once the police came out of the Empire State Building and the shooter pointed the gun at them the police stopped him with a shot to the head.
