Sobering news from Manhattan, just outside of the Empire State Building (ESB) today, 10 people were shot, according to Reuters. Two, unfortunately were fatally wounded. The shooter, Jeffrey Johnson (53) shot indiscriminately into the crowd in front of the popular tourist spot, after killing a former co-worker (41). Some construction workers around the ESB tried to catch and stop the shooter. Once the police came out of the Empire State Building and the shooter pointed the gun at them the police stopped him with a shot to the head. The Washington Post reported that the shooter was a laid-off former employee of Hazan Imports.

It is not the only action going on at the Empire State Building. The owners Peter and Anthony Malkin plan to issue an initial public offering. However, investors claim that the IPO favors particular investors and brought up a lawsuit, The Real Deal reported. The Empire State Building is visited by 4 million tourists every year and is one of New York’s most recognizable landmarks.
