NYC Condo 404 Park Ave South Gets New Name — Huys

The condo conversion in Manhattan’s Gramercy Park has gotten a new name — Huys. The Dutch name is not really surprising as both the developer and designer are Dutch. The name comes from "Stadt Huys," which is an old spelling of "City Hall" and is pronounced somewhat like the English word “house.”

The luxury condominium located in 404 Park Avenue South will have 58 apartments of up to 1-, 2-, 3- and 4-bedroom units. A full body cover showing a blue and white Delftware style discloses the design of the new façade. Delftware is a type of 16th century pottery from the Netherlands.

The designer, Piet Boon, was personally responsible for the building's interior and exterior designs. Meanwhile, famous developer Piet Oudolf took care of designing the roof terrace. Oudolf is best known for his involvement in the production of New York's High Line. Staat Creative Agency was in charge of branding and marketing.

Kroonenberg Group CEO, Lesley Bamberger, said, “The theme of Dutch design is prominent right from the start of the project. The scaffolding covers have been decorated with a Delft blue motif — a statement in itself — and several major names with Dutch roots are involved in the project."

The website simply says, “The project is designed by prestigious Dutch designers and boasts an unprecedented level of quality and detail, breathing the original mindset of the pioneers who founded New York.”

The Huys is also Kroonenberg’s first project in New York and will be finished in March. Other projects of Kroonenberg inside the U.S. are in Miami and Chicago. It’s also Kroonenberg’s first project inside the U.S. without a partner.

The Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group is the building's exclusive broker and marketer. Sales are expected to begin in Spring 2013.
